The Lucid Dream – A New Understanding

If you possess the ability to dream with the knowledge that you are dreaming, it is known as the lucid dream. Hence, it requires you to have the capability to make your body go to sleep while you travel to the realm of dreams with a fully conscious and wakeful mind.

The lucid dream is one experience which everyone is interested in. The very fact that you can control you dreams and do whatever you want, knowing fully well that nothing can come against you after waking up is an addictive feeling by itself. Hence, a lot of effort is given towards inducing the lucid dream.

DILD and WILD are the two forms of lucid dreaming. DILD stands for Dreams initiated Lucid dreaming which in simpler words means that the dream occurs first and then the individual suddenly becomes aware that he/she is dreaming. Needless to say that this is fairly common and does not involve full dream control.

A WILD or a wake initiated lucid dream on the other hand is when the dreamer passes from the realm of consciousness to that of the dreams being completely conscious and in a wakeful state of mind. Thus, in this case, only the body of the person falls asleep while the mind remains alert and focused. WILD is very rare and full dream control can be achieved here which is highly difficult to develop and is accompanied by a lot of intense vibrations, loud noises, shivering and tingling sensations.

The lucid dream can be induced in various ways. It has to be remembered that whichever technique you use, you need to be able to master the art of dream recall if you want to remember the experience anyway. Maintaining a journal to record the lucid dream or having an audio recorder at hand are good ideas towards the same.

Technological interventions can also be used in achieving the lucid dream. For example, hearing two different sound waves by way of the binaural beats through each ear of an individual creates the much required mental state. These beats fuse together and synchronize in the brain to create the same.

The lucid dream can also be stimulated with the MILD technique. In this case you need to tell your sub conscious mind time and again that it would remember a specific object from your dream. In that way, whenever you dream about that object, your sub conscious mind registers the fact and you become aware that you are in a dream.

The border between wakefulness and sleep is known as the hepnagogic stage. In case of the lucid dreams, this stage is crucial since you need to keep your mind focused while your body falls asleep. Some techniques to successfully accomplish this are chanting, counting your breaths, imagining yourself going down a flight of stairs and counting the stairs thereof, etc. for the most wonderful experience called the lucid dream.
