The Awesome Power Of Performance Magic
I saw this fantastic show the other night. I was completely surprised, because I went to this club as a last minute thing with a couple of friends. I didn’t even know what kind of show that it was until he started. It was a magic show, and this guy was completely like no other magician I’d ever seen. He did some incredible tricks, that I just have to share with you.
The first kind of trick was the basic, magician trick they most of them learn in magician school, or wherever they learn tricks. It was the basic sleight of hand trick, where they make stuff appear out of nowhere, and late make it reappear. They way he did it was pretty cool. He would space out the times when he made stuff appear, and disappear so that the crowd would forget what had gone away. Kind of like a skilled comedian will leave a crowd hanging for a while, and then deliver the punch line just at the right time.
Then he did these weird drawing tricks. He asked people to name random animals, and shapes. He made sure that everybody know that they were not plants or ringers, that they were normal audience people. Then he pulled out this picture that had all the animals and shapes that people had chosen. I’m sure he was using some kind of hypnosis.
It gets better. He started doing these psychic mind reading tricks. Guessing things about peoples history, guessing birthdays, and names of kids and grand kids. He really had the crowd enthralled.
Up to now I could sort of figure out how he was doing it. But after the next trick, I give up. He picked a couple people at random, and hypnotized them. They they started guessing random information about people in the crowd. And they were dead on accurate. Drivers license numbers, numbers in peoples addresses, it was downright spooky.
I’d forgotten how incredibly entertaining magic can be. If you’ve never seen a magic show, or it’s been a while, you should check it out. Or better yet, learn some tricks yourself, so you can entertain others.
