Save Money By Installing Your Vertical Blinds

With so many different colors, textures and styles to choose from, picking vertical blinds that compliment your home can become overwhelming. However, blinds are a great asset to any home. They are made with various materials such as, metal, wood and polyvinyl. This allows people to be unique when choosing window treatments to compliment their home furnishings.

Finding the location of the window blinds is quite simple. They are found at home improvement stores, some retail stores, and online. They are not too expensive, but to save some extra cash install them yourself.

There are not a lot of tools that are needed to install vertical blinds.

The tools needed are: hammer, finishing nails, tape measure, screwdriver, level, drill, drill bits, pencil and scissors.

All parts that are included with the window blinds should be near before starting installation. Wall anchors may be needed later, but are not included with the kit. Figure out if the mount will be on the inside or outside of the window. The inside mounting is more popular in homes, but mounting on the outside is equally attractive.

Measure for Correct Placement

Starting from the inside of the window, measure outwards about an inch on each side. Mark the spot; this is where the brackets will be placed. To avoid lack of privacy make sure the blinds will cover each side of the window.

Use the drill to put a hole in the place where the brackets will be mounted. When drilling into drywall use the wall anchors. After the holes are in place, screw the brackets in place with two screws per bracket.

Head Rail Installation

After brackets are in place, take the front edge of the rail and rotate it until it snaps into the clips of the brackets. Should you need to remove the rail, use a screwdriver and push it between the rail and release tab for removal.

Adding the Vanes

Turn the stems so that you can see between the slots. Push the vane up into the stem and gently pull until the vane is securely on the stem’s hook. Be sure that all vanes are overlapping one another. Then install the rod that operates the vertical blinds by latching it onto the hook on the rail.

Placing the Valance on the Blinds

The valance does not have to be used, but if preferred here are a few instructions. Put valance clips on the rail 2 inches from each end. The remaining valance clips need to be spaced out evenly on the rail. Finally slide the valance onto the rail.

Using and Cleaning Your Vertical Blinds

When opening and closing your window blinds, twist the rod until blinds open or close. The vanes should be open whenever you want to slide the window blinds open for maximum view. To clean the blinds use warm water and soap. Wipe the blinds down with the towel and dry. Vacuuming fabric blinds will keep the fabric fresh.

Vertical blinds are a small investment to a home. They do not cost much to buy or install, but will affect the way you and others view your home.
