Primary Knowledge In Offset Printing

Most companies need a printing service on a regular basis, whether it is for marketing purposes or for internal communication. Hence it is helpful to learn about the basic working of the frequently used printing process called offset printing.

The clients and the printers like offset printing because of its cost effectiveness for printing of large number of prints. The clients giving bulk printing orders are recommended by the printers to opt for offset printing due to this reason.

Offset printing uses oil based ink, which does not blend with water. In offset printing, rubber blankets play a transitional role in copying the image on the paper, which is originally on the plate.

First step is to develop the graphics. When offset printing started, the images had to be developed by the use of film negatives and they were later put on aluminum plates. But, a modern printing company would now develop the plates directly by using an image setting system. After this, the plate is attached to a cylinder with the correct side facing upwards. Next, the water is put on the image plates, which is followed by the ink. The image gets the ink while the rest of the area receives a thin cover of water, which ensures that the ink does not spill outside the images.

Next, the image is inverted when it is put on to a rubber blanket which is stuck to another cylinder. The image is turned around to its right side by transmitting the image to sheets which have been cut according to the need and are placed on a different cylinder.

The final steps of the printing job involve things such as stapling, gluing or organizing the printed sheets in line with the instructions of the customer, and any printing company should easily manage these.
