Hence, they ask, why is there such a thing as a court ordered paternity test?

Most often than not, the reasons are entirely different and complicated. Nevertheless, you could sum all those reasons up into two categories such as moral and legal. The motives that lean toward the moral category comes up in circumstance where a party, usually, a mother of a kid would want her kid to recognize or acknowledge his real identity. With the help of the test, his identity will be known. Scientifically, it would be achieved by conducting a DNA sampling.

Most often than not, this is only to condition or to make both parties fill in the missing piece of the puzzle and resolve the issue. The test could be legally motivated by the court while others are silently done so that other people will not know.

When you think about legalities though, more reasons could be deduced. The most common of these reasons is the issue of child support. Often, the court ordered paternity test is petitioned by the mother in order to get support for her child or children, should the alleged father be negligent. The results are considered a very strong evidence especially that a third party, that is a clinic or laboratory, is mandated by the court to conduct the testing thus manipulation of the result is impossible.

Another reason for doing such a test would be for resolving some complex legal issues. Like when an individual would like to exercise his or her rights in his biological father’s properties. Though it appears more dramatic, adopted children who are fortunate enough to have found their biological parents could require for this type of test. Also, the state could also require for categorizing the DNA of the people.

Last of the known reasons for conducting such tests is for identifying a body. While before, burnt or decaying bodies are only identified through their dental records, now, a court ordered paternity test could be done so that it would be easier for families to identify a person who has gotten into an accident or calamity. A typical example was when this was used during the 9/11 attack. Most of the dead bodies were already in decomposition state and the families had to submit a DNA sample in order to recover their loved-one’s remains.

With the more sophisticated and scientific way of answering questions and settling problems and disputes, one could not just say that they are watching their favorite primetime drama or sci-fi series. The court shall prove to you, the real drama could be ended by letting an independent party look through your genes.
