Choosing Among The Many Water Filters Systems
Bottled water and water filters are growing in popularity because of the concern of pollution. The air and water is more polluted today than ever, making it hard to know whether your home water is actually safe to drink and use. Bottled water is one option, but water filter systems are being used more today than ever before.
Having your water tested will help you decide what the best system is as it will tell you if there is a problem and what kind of problem. This will give you the information you need to choose the system that deals with the specific problems of your home water and correct them.
When contaminants are in the water, it can make it taste funny and can even make you sick. Installing a filtering system in the home will be able to remove the microbes and parasites as well as lead, pesticides, radon, and other chemicals that have found their way into your water. The systems purify your water, making it safer to use and drink
Once you determine that you do need a purification system, you need to make sure that you research what is best for your needs and choose one that has been certified. Not all systems are created equal, so if you are concerned about something specific, look for that in the system that you chose.
Two types of systems are used in water filtering. There is the point of use, POU, which focus on the faucets, where the tap water comes out. And, then you have the point of entry, POE, which is the start of the whole water system where the water enters your home.
POU filters are normally distillers, reverse osmosis systems, and filtered water pitchers. A distiller will boil water, removing contaminants and natural minerals found in water. They may also alter the taste of the water. Reverse osmosis units will filter water through a membrane; the pressure pulls chemicals and microbes out of water. This method does use a lot of water; however it is very effective for purifying. A filtered water pitcher is most easily available and affordable. Easy to use by just filling them with your tap water, which is then filtered through, leaving behind the contaminants and making the water taste better.
POE filters usually come in water softeners, aerators, and adsorptive media or water filtration installations. Water softeners are just like the name says, they softener water. Water can get hard with too much calcium and magnesium ions so this system replaces those with sodium or potassium ions, which makes water softer. Aerators work by jets of air that removes chemicals and contaminants, like radon or chemical components of gas. Adsorptive media installations are often carbon based. They trap solids and liquids in the filter to purify.
Having safe drinking and cooking water is a necessity in any home and it is easy to get with the many water filters available today. Making sure you test your water annually will allow you to catch any problems and let you know if the system you choose is effective. You deserve safe water in your family and you can have that easier than you think.
