First, you need to get a regular deck of cards. Any deck will do, you don’t need to set them up a certain way or anything. Fan them out, and ask your target to pick any card. Make sure to tell them not to show it to anybody. Make sure you tell them to study it closely, so they can remember it. If there are lots of people, have them show the card to some other folks.

Here comes the sneaky part. While they are studying their card, take a quick peek at the card that you will place on top of it. The only other time I’d actually seen a magician that wasn’t on TV was at my friends Confirmation party. It was in junior high school, and they had this magician come. He was OK, he did some card tricks, and pulled some coins out of my friend’s ears. Nothing out of the ordinary.

You immediately fan through the deck, so they can perceive it’s a pretty common deck. Not a caper deck filled with the Three of Clubs or something like that.

Then you tap the acme of the deck, as well as display them the summit two cards. No big deal, accurate? Then you tap the deck yet again, but those same two cards are now at the bottom! Then you take those two cards off the bottom, plus put them in center of the deck. Tap the deck as soon as more (you can borrow a pencil or something and use it as a magic wand if you like), as well as the two cards are again at the acme! Here’s how to set the deception up. First find all the Aces. Then put the Ace of Diamonds in your pocket (or shoe or wherever) beforehand. Then put the other Aces on top of the deck. When you draw the three Aces off the top, and fan them out, make sure to hold the Ace of Hearts in the midpoint. If you place both other cards on either side of the Ace of Hearts, it will look like the Ace of Diamonds to the audience.

How you utterance this is important. If you bring up beforehand that you are going to make the Ace of Diamonds fade away, they will be looking much more directly. But if you just start of by telling what you are doing, and then name the three cards (Ace of Clubs, Spades, and Diamonds) they will likely trust you, and not gaze too closely at the three cards.

One way that can really help is as you are shuffling and cutting the deck, is to divulge some long winded story about how diamonds have some kind of paranormal power, and in the old days when they were choosing the shapes for cards, they almost didn’t choose diamonds because people were always stealing them, or they were always disappearing or something. That way, when they start wondering about the Ace of Diamonds, it will already be hidden someplace in the deck, or so they believe. Have fun with this trick.

Here’s how the prank will seem to your soon to be extremely overwhelmed test subject. You tell them you have a deck of cards, and you will take each card off the top, and think on the color, red or black. Then you will cast the color into their brain, and they will unconsciously choose the right color. You carefully go through the whole deck, projecting either black or red into their mind.

Here’s how to do the trick. Ahead of time, you’ll need to isolated out all the red and black cards, put them into the deck. So you’ll have 26 black cards on top of 26 red cards. When you are “projecting” the card color into their brain, you’ll go through all the black cards, and all of the red cards. Since they’ll likely choose indiscriminately between black and red, after the first half the trick is over, you’ll have two stacks, with black on top of red, on either side.

They, of course, will imagine one stack is totally black, and one stack is wholly red. So when you ask them which stack they’d like to look at first, just have down pat which color is on top. If they choose red, present them ten cards in a row from the bottom, and if they choose black, show them ten cards in a row from the top. You’ll need to be chatting when you pick up the actual stack, and turn it over in your hands a couple times to keep their concentration off which side of the stack you pull the cards from. This trick always amazes them, and will win over any skeptic beyond a shadow of a doubt of your supernatural projection abilities. Have fun.

The earliest detail you’ll need to do is to calibrate somebody. Calibration is a word that simply means to pay attention to somebody’s body language or facial expressions when they are saying something that you know is either factual or untrue, or if they are thinking of specific person. Chiefly it means asking them a question, and then matching up their answers with their facial expressions and body language. Police are tremendously good at this skill.

For instance, get them to articulate something that you appreciate is not factual, and observe where their eyes go. Scrutinize where they look when they give you the fake answer. Now ask them a question that you know they will give a straightforward answer to, and examine where their eyes go. Chances are they will go to two dissimilar places, one when they tell the reality, and one when they tell a fib. Normally speaking, people will look up and to the right when they are telling the truth, and up and to the left when they are telling a fib. But be sure to calibrate them, as not all people are the same.

Now that you’ve got them “calibrated,” you can begin asking them questions, and tell them you can comprehend their psyche and know if they are telling the truth or lying. Even if you miss a couple, you’ll be much higher than fifty percent, which will astound most people. Some people find that this is a practical skill to use within a relationship, but I’ll leave that up to you.

Another ploy is to get them to think of two separate people. It helps it it’s one person they aren’t exceedingly fond of, liken ex boyfriend or girlfriend, and one person they unbelievably like. Again, by watching their facial expressions, you’ll know when they are wondering of either person. Then just ask them simple questions, like “Who is taller?” or “Who did you meet first?” or other simple ones. Then you can simply tell who they are wondering of based on their facial expressions.

This ploy works best with people that you are already friends with, as when we first get together with people, we tend to keep our unconscious facial expressions somewhat defended, so people can be a little difficult to read at first. Here’s how the trick looks to your astounded observers. You have all the cards of the matching suit taken out of the deck. So you’ve got all the hearts, or clubs, or whatever. Have them prearranged in order, beginning from the ace, and ending with the king. If you are doing this with kids, you can even have them set the deck up for them.

Once you’ve got it set up, then you go through the deck once, showing them all that they are certainly in order, beginning from the ace, and ending at the king. If you like you can provide them the short stack and have them ensure for themselves to make sure there is nothing strange going on.

Then elucidate the trick to them. You have the stack face down. If they say “deal,” then you take one card off the top, and place it face down on the table, in a new stack. If they say “double deal” then you take two cards off the top, reverse the order and then place them face down in the same stack. Do this until you’ve gone through all the cards. Tell them that they have to keep in mind the new order that the cards are in. While they are industriously trying to re calculate the order, you pick up the new stack, and begin to turn each card over one by one. They will be shocked to see that the cards are still in the same order, starting from the ace, up to the king.

Most frequently, they will ask you to do it again, and again. And the cool part is, since this is a self working trick, they can do it themselves and it will still work. The reason it works should be clear once you do this a few times. If you take only one card off the top, and place it in the new stack, (deal), or take two cards, and reverse the order, placing them in the new stack (double deal) they still end up in the same order, no matter if you deal or double deal them. This is amazing for kids of all ages, and a lot of of them will never estimate how it works even after they do the trick themselves.
