The Diminishing Desire to Explore Antarctica.
Long ago, off the volcanic coast of this wind-eroded shore, the whaling ship Antarctic dropped anchor, and sent a longboat to make it’s way to shore, struggling through the churning Ross Sea. The group aboard the longboat was lead by Captain Leonard Kristensen. They were the first people to set foot on the continent of Antarctica on January 24, 1895. This was all part of the voyage as they began to kill whales in waters that remained unclaimed.
